POSTNATAL DOULA

Picture
A  postnatal doula  provides in-home care to families after the birth of a baby. The postnatal doulas role includes helping with breastfeeding, sharing information about maternal adjustment, infant care and development, processing the birth experience, light housekeeping, meal preparation, and whatever else the mother needs done.
The doula's focus is usually on taking care of everything elce so that mum can take care of baby, however the doula may also do some baby care while mum is in the bath, napping or out of the home.
A postnatal doula generally begins working with the family right after the baby is born, and depending on the family's needs she can continue to work with you from a few weeks to a year or more.
   Postnatal Doula's offer a range of services that include;
   Providing physical, emotional and informational support regarding the postnatal period
   Assisting with Breastfeeding or formula feeding
   Assisting with baby and sibling care
   Performing LIGHT household tasks such as laundry, dishes and vacuuming
   Running errands
   Escorting mum on her first trips out with new baby
   Help to recognize symptoms of Baby Blues and other postnatal mood disorders and refer mum to the proper resources
   for help
   Communicating with family and friends for parents(sending pictures via email, updates,ect)
   Helping with Birth Announcement and Thank You cards.
There is a great deal of evidence suggesting that quality support eases the transition that comes with the addition of a baby to the family. By attending to the needs of the entire family, and offering quality referral information, a postnatal doula enhances the postpartum experience.
